Description: “(1915-2012) Polish-born, to Palestine 1935, member of Irgun and Stern Gang in fight for independence against British. As Speaker of the Knesset in 1970, he presided over Sadat’s visit and debate over the Egyptian peace treaty. Foreign Minister under PM Begin 1980-83. 7th Israeli PM 1983-84, rotated with Peres under National Unity Government to 1986, PM 1986-92. Before establishment of the State of Israel he was a leader of the Zionist paramilitary group Lehi. After Israel became a nation, he served in the Mossad 1955-65. During his Mossad career, he directed “Operation Damocles”, the assassinations of German rocket scientists working on Egypt’s rocket program. He was the country’s 3rd longest-serving Prime Minister after Ben-Gurion and Netanyahu.
