Description: (1819-1910) Writer and reformer, m. Samuel G. Howe 1843. Active in abolition, peace, and woman suffrage causes. A founder and 1st president of New England Woman Suffrage Assn. (1868-77, 1893-1910). A founder (1868) and 1st president (from 1871) of New England Women’s Club. Poet, her Civil War work Battle Hymn of the Republic published in The Atlantic Monthly 1862. Edited Women’s Journal 1870-90. First woman elected to American Academy of Arts and Letters 1908.

2 ¼ x 3 ½ card signed and dated July 1897 by her. With portrait and facsimile copy of her handwritten lyrics to Battle Hymn of the Republic with facsimile signature. 3 pieces, will frame well!

Condition: Very good, portrait has staining at very top, transcript with mount remnants at corners.
