Description: (1858-1948) 2nd wife of 23rd President Benjamin Harrison (1889-93). She was 25 years younger than him, the niece of his 1st wife, Caroline Lavinia Scott Harrison. On Oct. 22, 1881, she married Walter E. Dimmick, who died Jan. 14, 1882, leaving her a widow at 23. She moved into the White House in 1889 to serve as assistant to her aunt, the First Lady. After Caroline Harrison’s 1892 death, former president Harrison and Mrs. Dimmick fell in love and in late 1895 announced their engagement. Mrs. Dimmick, 37, married the former president, 62, in New York City in 1896. His grown children from his 1st marriage, horrified at the news, did not attend the wedding. Harrison’s VP, Levi P. Morton, and several former Cabinet members were among the 3 dozen guests; his former Navy Secretary Benjamin F. Tracy was the best man.

Frameable item!
